Localization based on enhanced low frequency interaural level difference

چکیده

The processing of low-frequency interaural time differences is found to be problematic among hearing-impaired people. current generation beamformers does not consider this deficiency. In an attempt tackle issue, we propose replace the inaudible in region with level differences. addition, a beamformer introduced and analyzed, which enhances sound sources using near-field transformation. proposed beamforming problem relaxed convex semi-definite relaxation. instrumental analysis suggests that are enhanced without hindering provided intelligibility. A psychoacoustic localization test done listening experiment, replacement into improves performance normal-hearing listeners for anechoic scene but reverberant scene.

Localization by interaural time difference (ITD): effects of interaural frequency mismatch.

A commonly accepted physiological model for lateralization of low-frequency sounds by interaural time delay (ITD) stipulates that binaural comparison neurons receive input from frequency-matched channels from each ear. Here, the effects of hypothetical interaural frequency mismatches on this model are reported. For this study, the cat's auditory system peripheral to the binaural comparison neur...

Interaural phase and level difference sensitivity in low-frequency neurons in the lateral superior olive.

The lateral superior olive (LSO) is believed to encode differences in sound level at the two ears, a cue for azimuthal sound location. Most high-frequency-sensitive LSO neurons are binaural, receiving inputs from both ears. An inhibitory input from the contralateral ear, via the medial nucleus of the trapezoid body (MNTB), and excitatory input from the ipsilateral ear enable level differences t...

Modelling of Human Low Frequency Sound Localization Acuity Demonstrates Dominance of Spatial Variation of Interaural Time Difference and Suggests Uniform Just-Noticeable Differences in Interaural Time Difference

Sound source localization is critical to animal survival and for identification of auditory objects. We investigated the acuity with which humans localize low frequency, pure tone sounds using timing differences between the ears. These small differences in time, known as interaural time differences or ITDs, are identified in a manner that allows localization acuity of around 1° at the midline. ...

Reliability of Interaural Time Difference-Based Localization Training in Elderly Individuals with Speech-in-Noise Perception Disorder

Background: Previous studies have shown that interaural-time-difference (ITD) training can improve localization ability. Surprisingly little is, however, known about localization training vis-à-vis speech perception in noise based on interaural time difference in the envelope (ITD ENV). We sought to investigate the reliability of an ITD ENV-based training program in speech-in-noise perception a...

Perception of across-frequency interaural level differences.

The interaural level difference (ILD) is an important cue for the localization of sound sources. Just noticeable differences (JND) in ILD were measured in 12 normal hearing subjects for uncorrelated noise bands with a bandwidth of 13 octave and a different center frequency in both ears. In one ear the center frequency was either 250, 500, 1000, or 4000 Hz. In the other ear, a frequency shift of...
